Liberal Democrats look to federal future for Scotland in the UK

Rutherglen Liberal Democrat Scottish Parliament candidate Sheila Thomson has congratulated Anas Sarwar on his election as Scottish Labour leader and being the first Muslim and person of colour to lead a political party within the UK. She has further called on the Labour Party to work with the Liberal Democrats to deliver a modern, federal United Kingdom.

Sheila Thomson said:

“Scottish Liberal Democrat Leader, Willie Rennie, has said he is keen to work with Anas Sarwar to make reform of the UK a priority. Liberal Democrats have long championed a federal future for the United Kingdom and in recent times there has been an increased recognition from Gordon Brown and others in the Labour Party and beyond that the United Kingdom needs reform.

I support this call, and the opportunity is there, as the SNP fight like ferrets in a sack over the Salmond affair, to create a new, sustainable future for Scotland in the UK as an equal partner banishing the calls for a further divisive referendum on independence.”
