Local Liberal Democrats comment on Scottish Budget

South Lanarkshire Liberal Democrat Group Leader Councillor Robert Brown commented this week on the Scottish Government's Budget:

Robert Brown said:

“The Budget is going to hamstring local Councils yet again by providing inadequate support and linking it to a Council tax freeze which only reduces the money available for vital council services.

The Scottish Government have had the biggest funding boost in years but are still moaning about London and they still can’t pass on enough finance to support local services properly.

We need to Put Recovery First. Our health service, education and economy need a needle sharp focus to ensure that they recover from the pandemic.

Yet the SNP Government’s budget is largely silent on getting our education system back up to being the best of the world again and providing support for teachers. And there is no recovery plan for the Scottish economy either.”
