Gloria Adebo thanks Rutherglen & Hamilton West voters for their support
Gloria Adebo, Liberal Democrat candidate for the Rutherglen & Hamilton West By Election has thanked local people for their support during the by election and congratulated Michael Shanks MP on his election.
Gloria said:
“This has been a stunning rejection of the SNP right across Rutherglen & Hamilton West. I congratulate Michael Shanks warmly on his election as MP. His success was built in part on votes borrowed from other parties from people who were determined to get rid of the SNP.
The Liberal Democrats held our position and indeed almost overhauled the Conservatives when the votes were counted. I am extremely grateful to local people for their reception on the doorsteps and for their support.
Liberal Democrats went into the by election determined to argue our cause, focus on the issues like the cost of living that matter to people. Our aim too was to further build our membership and support in the area following on our success in the council elections last year. We have been successful in that with a lot of new Liberal Democrat contacts and potential new members.
Liberal Democrats are a key part of the mood for change which was so evident in the by election. We look forward to success in the next by election – in mid Bedfordshire on 29th October where Liberal Democrats are regarded as the main challengers to the Conservatives.
