Local Liberal Democrats call for Britain to stand strong with Ukraine against Russian aggression at 3 year anniversary of the war

Speaking on the 3rd Anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Councillor Robert Brown, Liberal Democrat Group Leader on South Lanarkshire Council, called for the United Kingdom to stand strong with Ukraine in its continued resistance to Vladimir Putin’s aggressive war.
Robert Brown said:
“Ukraine and Europe – and our freedom and futures are being sold out by US President Donald Trump in his inexplicable policy of cosying up to the Russians.
We live in a new and dangerous world. Now more than ever, we must support our Ukrainian allies, and work with our European neighbours to defend the freedoms we have sometimes taken for granted. It seems clear the USA can no longer be trusted either to honour its alliances or to stand up to Putin’s aggression. Even worse he has turned on this allies – not least Ukraine – with fraudulent and untrue smears.
The United Kingdom and Europe – despite Trump’s assertions - already provide two thirds of the support to Ukraine and, unfortunately this must increase, starting with raising the UK’s defence spending to 2.5% of GDP immediately. The UK and Europe musty also use the £40 billion of Russian assets which we have frozen to give Ukraine a critical boost and replace the support they seem likely to lose from America.”
